6 DIY Fall Scents to Make Your Home Smell Like Fall
Enjoy the unforgettable wonderful memories you make with your family with these DIY Fall scents.
They’ll put you in the fall season mood and make you ready to pumpkin spice up your life.
1. Essential Oil Burner
I love candles! They’re an effortless way to bring fragrance into your home and make your home smell like Fall, and to be surrounded by your favorite aroma! And all you need is an essential oil burner, tealight candles, and your favorite essential oils. I recommend the perfect pumpkin fragrance oil. With a lighted tealight candle, the perfect pumpkin fragrance oil will give off a lovely fragrance of sweet pumpkin, cinnamon, clove and sugary maple for a cozy scent of pumpkin pie just out of the oven that will last for about six hours.
Alternatively, place a pumpkin-spice-scented tealight candle into a mason jar decorated with fall foliage. The candle will give off the perfect Fall fragrance and bring to your home the essence of this savored season for hours.
2. Simmer a Pot of Apple Slices, Orange Peels, Cinnamon Sticks & Cloves
Here’s how to give your home a warm, inviting fragrance. You just need to boil water with the peels from 1 orange, 1 sliced apple, 2 cinnamon sticks, and 3 cloves in a regular stovetop saucepan. Reduce heat to a simmer and cook for 5 additional minutes. If using a crockpot, start with heat on high, covered, for about 30 minutes then reduce heat to low, uncover the pot, and let it simmer. You can let it simmer for a couple of hours while you enjoy the fall aroma. That’s it! Easy, natural and a distinctively Fall scent that’s savory and heavenly!
Alternatively, if you’re hosting a seasonal party, serve your guests some warm cider punch! Substitute the water with 64 ounces of apple cider and add 1 thinly sliced apple, 1 thinly sliced orange, 2 cinnamon sticks, and 1-inch piece of ginger that’s peeled and also thinly sliced. This is sure to make for a fun and festive holiday gathering (especially if you add 16 ounces of rum to it!).
3. Scented Pine Cones
All you need is to bake the pine cones at 200F for one hour. Once cooled, add your favorite Fall blend essential oils and keep in an air-tight container for the scent to develop. Then place them around your home. You can also decorate them with leaves and cinnamon sticks.
They look so pretty around your home as Fall decorations.
4. DIY Fragrant Sachets
Capture the smell of Fall inside your home with these awesome little pouches with bold and fragrant aromas. They are so easy to make and will make your home smell like Fall immediately with the woodsy scents of sandalwood, honey, and golden amber with notes of patchouli and bergamot.
You only need dried flowers or your favorite blend of herbs, Fall essential oils (I really like a blend of sandalwood, patchouli and bergamot which is a scent I use in one of my body washes), and organza bags or bath tea bags.
To get that “walking through the woods” feeling, place the dried flowers or herb blend into a glass bowl, drizzle a few drops of essential oil and toss with a plastic fork to mix well. Lay the herbs out on waxed paper to dry then spoon fill each bag and tie closed or seal with an iron. Make dozens of them and these DIY Fall scents will make your home smell like Fall immediately. I also use them to perfume my kids’ gym bags, closets, and bedrooms to get rid of any foul odors that may be lingering.
5. Homemade Citrus & Lavender Spray (plus Printable)
Nothing smells more like Fall than the pleasant smells of sweet orange and soft lavender. And this natural spray is just perfect for Fall! You only need some essential oils (sweet orange and lavender oils), vegetable glycerin, water, and a spray bottle.
To make the spray, fill the bottle with 4 ounces of water (preferably distilled or filtered) and add 3/4 ounces (0.75 ounces) of glycerin. Add 20 drops of sweet orange essential oil and 20 drops of lavender essential oil to the bottle. Cap the bottle, shake, and enjoy! This is one of my favorite ideas from these 6 DIY Fall scents as this spray can also be used as a body spray.
I also made some fall-inspired printables to go along with the spray in case you wanted to give it as a gift: CLICK HERE.
6. Pumpkin Spice Body Scrub
A great way to make your home smell like fall is with this amazing brown sugar body scrub. Just mix melted shea butter, coconut oil, pumpkin spice, extra cinnamon and ground cloves. Add to brown sugar and stir to fully incorporate, breaking up any clumps. And that’s it! Your scrub is ready for use. At the end of your shower, exfoliate with this scrub and rinse off. You won’t pick up the spices in the mixture right away but the fragrance coming out of the shower is just priceless! I wish I could share it in this post…
