DIY Soothing Fizzy Bath Bombs & Salts Recipe
Several of the steps of both the bath bombs and salts mirror each other but the salts are instant gratification, no waiting for molds to set up!
Depending on your proportions, this recipe makes about 4 mini-muffin bath bombs and 8 ounces of bath salts.
Ingredients
- 1 cup Baking Soda
- 1/2 cup Epsom Salt
- 1/2 cup Citric Acid
- 1/4 cup Cornstarch ***
- 3 tablespoonfuls Coconut Oil, melted
- 15 drops Eucalyptus Essential Oil
- 15 drops Peppermint Essential Oil
- 10 drops Sweet Orange Essential Oil
- 10 drops Rosemary Essential Oil
- Soap Colorant or Food Coloring (I used green)
***Note: Cornstarch slows down the rate at which both baking soda and citric acid react and dissolve. This in turn makes the bath bombs not fizz as much but the fizziness lasts longer — minutes, instead of only seconds. If your bath bombs and salts aren’t fizzing as much as you’d like, try decreasing the amount of cornstarch or getting rid of it all together.
Directions

- In a large mixing bowl, add baking soda, Epsom salt, citric acid and cornstarch. Whisk together until combined, making sure to break up any clumps.
- Slowly drizzle the melted coconut and essential oils onto the mixture and whisk immediately. Be sure to distribute the wet ingredients throughout and not to add them all at once. If you do, the mixture will begin to fizz, which means you’re getting it too wet too fast. Your finished consistency should look like wet sand. (Note: You can add more or less essential oils depending on how strong of a scent you want.)
- Separate the mixture into 2 bowls.
- Add 3–4 drops of green food coloring to one bowl (1 drop at a time) and mix well. Leave the other bowl as is.
- For the fizzy bath bombs, layer each color into your mold, pressing the mixture down in the center. Allow the bath bombs to dry for 4 – 6 hours, or until they have hardened completely.
- When dry, unmold your bath bombs and store in an airtight container.
- For the fizzy bath salts, alternate each color in an airtight container, gently pressing the salts down to make a level surface for the next layer.
