Make Your Home Smell Like Fall With This DIY Trick
Certain scents bring back memories and this DIY trick really brings me back to that “walking through the woods” feeling. Sandalwood, patchouli and bergamot are perfect woodsy fall scents that remind me of cool breezes, the leaves changing color and, of course, the family get-togethers. This easy DIY idea makes my home smell like fall and takes me back to those good times.
The Dangers of Artificial Fragrances
There are lots of fall-scented candles and air fresheners in stores, but the truth is most of these products aren’t the best choice. They contain phthalates and other harmful chemicals that have been linked to an increased risk of asthma and cancer in children and adults, and seizures in children. Using a natural scent that’s free of chemicals to make your home smell like fall is the safer option. And it’s really easy to do! Make some sachets with dried flowers or herbs drizzled with fall-scented essential oils. That’s it! Your home will smell like fall for weeks. The aroma is so fragrant. And your home is transformed into an enchanting mystical forest on a perfect fall day.
What You Need To Make Fragrant Sachets
Ingredients: Dried flowers or herbs, fall-scented essential oils, and organza bags or bath tea bags.
Instructions: Place the dried flowers or herb blend into a glass bowl. Drizzle a few drops of essential oil and toss with a plastic fork to mix well. Lay the herbs out on waxed paper to dry then spoon fill each bag. Tie organza bag closed; seal bath tea bag with an iron on medium setting.
Make dozens of them and they’re fragrant aroma will fill your home and transport you to an enchanted forest!
You can even add more fall ingredients to the bags. Think cloves, cedar, rosemary, lavender (which naturally repels moths), pumpkin, balsam or orange. You can use dried ingredients or essential oils. Play around with different combinations to see which natural fall scent is your favorite. Mine is definitely the sandalwood, patchouli and bergamot essential oil blend.
I made these fragrant sachets and they’re so worth it! My home smells like an enchanted forest on a perfect fall day. And I absolutely LOVE it! I made several organza bags and tea bags and placed them around the house — in closets, the kids’ bedrooms, in gym bags, in drawers, and in laundry baskets. When my daughter developed body odor a while ago, I started making these fragrant sachets to place in her gym bag and laundry basket. She uses antibacterial body washes and sprays which have taken care of the body odor, but sometimes her gym bag and laundry basket don’t smell that great (and that’s an understatement). These sachets keep her gym bag, laundry basket, and the rest of my home smelling fresh all year long! (Doing my happy dance).
So you too can make your home smell like fall naturally, without the use of artificial fragrances. And you get to avoid harmful chemicals. With just a few ingredients you can have your home smelling amazing.
